Letterpress

// Design + Typesetting + Printing

Old Type, New context

During a week-long workshop at Tipoteca Italiana Foundation, I worked with fellow designer Tomas Muelling to compose this poster using historic Italian wood type from the archival collection. The poster makes use of expressive type and color to consider the gap between contemporary critique and the long lens of historical context. I absolutely loved exploring the collection, curating a selection, laying out the composition, and printing the poster.

Cards for every occasion

As far as deisgn sprints go, nothing beats setting and printing a card in one go. The process typically takes a few hours from initial conception to card in hand and it’s immensely satisfying to see the project evolve as I move from type drawer exploration to composition completion and final adjustments on the press.

Modern Methods

As part of my exploration in letterpress, I enjoy incorporating modern methods like laser-cutting. This takes on many forms, from precision pressure prints to hand-made letters to original type furniture.
